Manager

Summary

The General Manager ensures shop profitability by delivering outstanding service and quality products, while ensuring efficiency of all functions. Responsible for managing and directing the team, training, compliance, procedures, all aspects of improving and maintaining the shop, working to meet customer needs and financial numbers. Must have a passion for retail, coffee and working hands-on with employees, products and customers. This is a fulltime role with competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Responsibility

  • Staffs the shop and manages schedules
  • Develops menu and product offerings
  • Educates employees and customers on products
  • Selects and oversees vendors
  • Manages inventory cycle
  • Manages maintenance and cleaning of equipment and facility
  • Markets Order & Chaos, including partnering with a sister-company marketing team for social media, events and networking
  • Establishes efficient operations that are compliant to relevant regulations
  • Manages performance of all employees
  • Ensures shop profitability

Tasks

  • Implements positive change and continuously looks for ways to improve work processes
  • Improves workflow by maximizing efficiency and resources
  • Interviews, selects and arranges training of new hires
  • Manages and documents personnel issues with HR
  • Works hands-on with employees to teach, grow, and allow them to take on new responsibilities
  • Leads by example
  • Embraces diversity of employees by leveraging differences and listens to others’ perspectives
  • Delegates duties as appropriate to Shift Leads and employees
  • Proposes and implements promotional events and specials
  • Works with employees to create seasonal drink promotions
  • Proactively sets up shop with products and supplies in preparation for peak hours
  • Assists employees and works with a sense of urgency to meet customer needs at all times
  • Uses attention to detail to ensure menu items are prepared and presented to meet Order & Chaos standards
  • Monitors employee handling of products, use of equipment, and ensures shop is 100% in accordance with food safety and general safety regulations
  • Troubleshoots and manages shop equipment and facility repairs
  • Understands financial reports and product trends, and makes recommendations to owners to increase profitability
  • Books and tracks expenses in appropriate software and via online banking
  • Manages schedule for all employees through Homebase
  • Performs POS management in Shopkeep; submits accurate hours to HR for biweekly payroll
  • Tracks, orders, reconciles daily food and supply orders
  • Regularly communicates with owners regarding business operations and key decisions

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years managing independently as General Manager in a cafe environment
  • Strong retail service knowledge, including seasonal patterns and trends
  • Proficient with computer software (POS system, spreadsheets, documents)
  • ServeSafe Certified/holds current Food Handlers certificate
  • Supervisory experience including but not limited to: interviewing, selection, managing performance, employee development and managing financials
  • Strong independent initiative, advanced planning and organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with Square for retail service
  • Strong knowledge of the coffee industry, including seasonal patterns and trends

Work Hours & Other Requirements

Order & Chaos Coffee is open Mon–Fri 7am – 4pm and Sat-Sun 8am - 5pm. Today, the shop employs three key-holding Shift Leads and three additional employees. The General Manager is expected to work 5 days per week in this Exempt role.

  • Monday: 6:45am - 2:45pm
  • Tuesday: 6:45am - 2:45pm
  • Wednesday: off
  • Thursday: 6:45am - 2:45pm
  • Friday: 6:45am - 2:45pm
  • Saturday: 7:45am - 4pm
  • Sunday: off
